Wedding Ceremonies That Complete An Indian Wedding

Do not miss anything! After ticking each box we get a sense of completeness. The same logic applies to weddings as well. We do not want to miss any ceremony. Because if it happens, if we miss any ceremony that gets stuck in our minds for the rest of our lives. So we are here with wedding ceremonies that complete an Indian wedding so that nothing gets stuck in your mind and you do not miss anything on your big wedding day.

There are various pre-wedding and post-wedding ceremonies. Starting with engagement, then wedding, welcoming of the bride at groom’s house,  etc. we too will start our blog with an engagement ceremony and then will proceed further.

Engagement

The majority of the time we perform this ceremony months before the wedding. The guest list of this event is kept short and usually, it is the first official announcement of the wedding. The wedding ritual begins with the bride and groom exchanging rings in front of their family members and loved ones.

It is not mandatory to have this ceremony months before the wedding or have a short guest list, you can perform this event along with the wedding and with a large number of guests. Overall, do whatever your heart says.

Mehndi

What comes to your mind when we talk about the bridal look? Is it just the outfit or jewelry? Well, add one more thing to it, i.e. Mehndi! The bridal look is incomplete without having mehndi on her hands. The Mehndi ceremony takes place in the evening. It is not a typical wedding event, instead, it’s a fun event, not for the bride as she has to sit for hours to get her mehndi.

One fun part of this ceremony is that the groom has to find his name in the hands of the bride. It is a fun thing as well as holds significance as well. The grooms are also allowed to have mehndi on their hands. We boys are so simple, that we just go with the name of the bride as the mehndi design.

Sangeet Ceremony

The wedding is getting bigger event by event and the fun is increasing as well. After a fun mehndi event, it’s time for the sangeet. The battle of the bride’s and groom’s team. Do not have an idea whether the wedding preparation begins months before or not but the dance rehearsals surely begin as soon as the announcement of the wedding is done.

It’s just not the choreography, the stage has to be at its best. Wedding planners and dance choreographers have a lot of work to do at the sangeet ceremony.

Tilak

This is one of those very few wedding ceremonies where the bride has nothing to do. All male members of the bride’s family visit the groom’s house and put tilak on his forehead. They go with Shagun as well. This ceremony marks the togetherness of both families.

Haldi Ceremony

We try various cosmetic products and have their consequences. In case of bad consequences, our Mumma comes in to rescue us with her organic/ natural or we can say home-made remedy. Haldi is that homemade remedy. Here in this ceremony, the family members of both sides apply Haldi over the bodies of the bride and groom in order to make them ready for their big day.

After all, Haldi is a natural remedy, which will surely make them pretty. Far better than your cosmetic product and makeup. I am not saying this, one of my aunts said this line at a recent wedding.

Garlanding and Phera Ceremony

After all these events it’s time for the big ceremonies. The first one is the garlanding ceremony where the bride and groom exchange garlands. The fun part is that the bride and groom get lifted respectively by their family members and now it’s up to them to exchange the garlands. How far you can go for your love!

Next comes the wedding ritual. In this the bride and groom take Saat Pheras, the bride’s father performs the emotional ceremony, i.e. Kanyadan, and then finally the groom puts sindoor on the bride which turns them into a couple.

Bidaai

Bidaai marks the ending of our blog as well as the wedding. The bride leaves the wedding venue with the groom. The brothers and father push the car and finally, their daughter has got married.
