At a wedding, the dessert counter is where the entire crowd is. The post meal treats can win hearts no matter how picky your guests are. So why neglect the most important section of a wedding buffet when you can show your creativity here as well! Moreover your guests will have one more awesome thing to remember about your wedding and will never stop bragging about their experience of your wedding. Nowadays, people expect more than just a wedding cake, so why not surprise them with some quirky ideas that I have listed below.
1. Variety is Key
Well! In Indian desserts you have a ton of options but what about a crossover table? In addition to all your favorite mithais, you can add some French macaroons, tiny glazed donuts or any Italian dessert of your choice. Basically you can be as creative as you want to be but make sure that all the portions are small and bite-sized. Exquisite desserts like Tiramisu can be portioned in tiny glasses for individual servings. Place your desserts on suitable crockery such as laddoos can be presented on a 3 tier cupcake stand. This way a variety of laddoos can be served without occupying too much space.
2. An ice-cream cart for the kids!
I know! It’s not just for the kids. Everyone loves ice cream especially from a cart. It’s very common in the West to have an ice cream cart at a wedding but the idea is slowly gaining popularity here in India as well! When it comes to decorating the cart, there are many themes that you can follow for example – a vintage, rustic wooden cart with a menu written on a chalkboard, an all white cart with cute quotes written on it. My favorite is a cart with pastel colors and minimal floral decorations.
Seasonal flowers can be used to cover the wheels of the cart or decorate it with bouquets on the station. You can always experiment with the flavors but make sure to keep the classic ones like chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. Keep a variety of toppings to go with the ice cream so everyone can customize their order according to their liking. The ice cream can be mounted with tiny flags where the couple’s initials can be printed.
3. Classic floral decorations
Be it any kind of decoration, flowers work like a charm. If you want to go for a simple yet beautiful vibe- a floral cake is probably the best option. A 3 tier cake decorated with flowers at the bottom of every tier are trending these days. The cake can be flavored with your favorite fruit such as strawberry, scented with some rose water and voila! A simple yet decadent cake is ready. Nowadays, bakeries are also using leaves to decorate cakes and other sweets but make that the cake is the centre of attraction. An empty frame covered with flowers can be put in front of the cake or a flower ring to add an edge and style to the table. The corners can be lit with some vintage lanterns to complete the look.
4. Rustic vibes
In this theme, you can show a lot of creativity and use a lot of crap that you were anyways going to throw away. Old wooden racks, boards, vases, vintage cake stands rustic chalkboards even old cupboards or TV stands, fiery lights and a few flowers – is all you need to make a good rustic sweet table. I can seriously go on and on but the above mentioned items are enough for a starter pack. But keep in mind that you can’t choose sophisticated desserts like macaroons or cannolis here.
Donuts, whole pies and even waffles will match the tune to perfection. And of course you can add your Indian mithais to these options as well.
5. The Queen’s high tea
A high tea station is perfect for your Haldi or Mehendi ceremony. Moreover, the well approved TV series; ‘Bridgerton’ must take all the credit for popularizing such a niche decoration idea. Floral china crockery, pastel colored fabric, flowers and a whole lot of gloves is all you need to complete the look. When it comes to the desserts, classic scones served with butter and fruit preserves, tea cakes, lemon tarts and brownies would do the needful but make sure all the sweet treats are bite-sized in order to maintain the sophistication.
You can absolutely go to town on the variety of teas. Along with the classic over brewed Indian chai, you can include options like the Darjeeling tea, earl grey, Assam black tea or the chamomile tea.
As I already mentioned, a tea station is perfect for small ceremonies, you can definitely go a little extra as you don’t have to worry about an extravagant dinner. Mini tea stations can be set up at every guest table and also hire a skilled service staff for personalized service so everything goes smoothly. This setup can be easily done in a park or even in your garden. Believe me! Your guests will never forget an experience like that.
